Although there are a number of plugins for embedding video in WordPress, most of these are no longer needed because you can embed YouTube, Vimeo, Flickr galleries and other media types using the WordPress Autoembed feature. To enable auto-embedding, a site administrator must visit the Settings | Media page and check the Auto-Embeds option. They must also set a maximum height and width for embedded content. For more information on the WordPress Auto-Embedding feature, please see the WordPress Codex.
The YouTube video below was rendered simply be pasting the YouTube page URL for that video on a line by itself as shown. The URL must include the actual video ID found (ie not from a channel page) and can not contain spaces or any HTML coding:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWfksMD4PAg
In addition to YouTube, WordPress Auto-Embed currently supports the following media services:
- YouTube (only public videos - "unlisted" and "private" videos will not embed)
- Vimeo
- DailyMotion
- blip.tv
- Flickr (both videos and images)
- Viddler
- Hulu
- Qik
- Revision3
- Scribd
- Photobucket
- PollDaddy
- Google Video
- WordPress.tv (only VideoPress-type videos for the time being)
- SmugMug (WordPress 3.0+)
- FunnyOrDie.com (WordPress 3.0+)
